Clairemont School Improvement Plan

The School Improvement Plan is a working document. It speaks to the following standards of the Board of Education and the Superintendent: -Developing a shared understanding of the need for change; -Developing shared beliefs and vision; -Developing a focus on students and the quality of work provided to students. Work must be engaging, relevant, and of interest to students. Clairemont's 2006-10 revised School Improvement Plan will be available on line in January.

Clairemont Elementary School Council- What is a School Council?

School Councils were established by law in 2000 as policy-level advisory bodies to the Principal, Superintendent, and local board of education. Their purpose is to "bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation to solve difficult education problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators, and bring parents into the school-based decision-making process." The councils have very specific roles. They advise and make recommendations on matters related to school improvement and student achievement. Responsibilities of school council members include maintaining a schoolwide perspective on issues and acting as a link between the council and the community. The Clairemont Elementary School Council provides information about their meetings and projects, usually through the school newsletter. Official meeting minutes are also published. Parents, teachers, and community members should feel free to contact council members on matters related to student achievement and school improvement, including school board policies, school improvement plans, curriculum and assessments, school budget priorities, school-community communication strategies, methods of involving parents and the community, and school discipline and attendance.
